As expected Apple announced its tablet computer, the iPad, today. Here are the specs:
0.5 inches thick and weighs just 1.5 pounds.
9.7-inch MultiTouch, LED-backlit display.
;178 degree viewing angle.
Software keyboard with optional Keyboard dock if you prefer a physical keyboard.
Ships with 12 applications (like Calender and Mail), but can run almost all the iPhone apps available on the App Store (since there's no camera it obviously won't work with the ones that use the camera).
iBooks is Apple's take on the eBook and the iBookstore will work at launch and feature books from major and independent publishers.
iWork will be available for iPad, with the three apps selling for $9.99 each.
Uses Apple's own A4 chip, which enables long battery life - 10 hours of use on a single charge.
We don't have UK pricing details yet (they have not yet been released), but the iPad comes in two versions—one with Wi-Fi and the other with both Wi-Fi and 3G. The Wi-Fi version will be available worldwide in March, with the 3G version 30 days later. The 3G version will be available without a contract, so you can cancel any time, but there are two price plans: $14.99 for 250MB data and $29.99 for unlimited (that's on AT&T in the US).
The suggested retail price is $499 (US) for the 16GB model, $599 (US) for the 32GB model, $699 (US) for the 64GB model. The Wi-Fi + 3G models of iPad will be available in April in the US and selected countries for a suggested retail price of $629 (US) for the 16GB model, $729 (US) for the 32GB model and $829 (US) for the 64GB model.
The UK site hasn't been updated yet, but you can read more – and watch the official Apple video – at www.apple.com/ipad!

As long as it is from Apple an iSomething should be great. The iPad should not make exception.....After a few updates, but we know this, we love Apple, we expect it. I am looking forward to the iPad. However, why Apple did not add an iSight on that machine is a mistery to me. May be the next generation will?
