Welcome to the brand new MacFormat.co.uk – do you like what we've done with the place?
It's not just a lick of paint we've given the site, either; it's a ground-up rebuild, hosted on a proper, modern back-end that will let us grow and evolve the site in exciting ways over the next few years. But enough; are you ready for the grand tour?
Home
Our homepage brings everything together. You'll see featured blog posts from the team – and some of our best contributing editors – at the left. You'll have to click through to the Blog page – or subscribe to our blog's RSS feed – to read all the posts we put up.
We've got some cracking Mac and Apple news from the team at TechRadar filtering in over there on the right, and that'll stay there no matter which page you're on.
We also make sure you can see what's in the latest issue, and get access to our fantastic competitions, right on the front page. Tucked down at the bottom is a mini version of our Twitter feed – the best way to get the very latest news-as-it-breaks and behind-the-scenes sneak-peeks at the world of MacFormat – though of course, you can also subscribe to the RSS feed from our Twitter account or, best of all, follow @MacFormat if you're using Twitter yourself
Join us!
At the right-hand side, you'll see a little box inviting you to log in. It's entirely optional – though you'll need to create an account if you want to post a comment on our blog posts. If you do create an account, you'll be able to send private messages to other users. Note that, sadly, this system is completely independent of the logins for our forums and the login details subscribers will use to access PDFs in the Subscriber section
Podcast
We produce a fantastic podcast every two weeks, and you can now watch the enhanced version – complete with pictures and links – right in your browser. You can download the enhanced version too – and an audio-only MP3 edition – or we'll give you links from which you can subscribe to the podcast in iTunes so you need never miss an episode!
Newsletter
We're not quite ready to launch it yet, but we'll soon be putting together a newsletter about the magazine and the Mac industry. You can sign up now and be the first to get the newsletter when it goes live!
Reviews
Almost all of our reviews are automatically published on our sister site, TechRadar.com, and at long last we're now able to bring them all back into MacFormat.co.uk. You can use the search box right at the top right of the screen to search throughout the site, and review results will show up here too.
Forum
The forum – for better or worse! – stays exactly the same. We're looking at options for evolving it after the big push to get the main site relaunched, but sadly, simply 'upgrading PHPBB', the system that powers it, isn't an option at the moment as it would affect more forums here at Future Publishing than just MacFormat.
Resellers
This is a nascent section of the website, but in the future this should develop into a great destination for sortable details of local Apple resellers and maybe even exclusive offers.
Subscriber
Our favourite new feature! If you subscribe to MacFormat, you can log into this section of the site and download PDFs of our fantastic tutorials, features and Group Tests! They've been specially optimised for the site, and we've gone all the way back to issue 200 to make sure there's plenty there to get you started. Even if you've only recently subscribed to the magazine, we're letting you go back to issue 200 and grab the very best bits of MacFormat!
There you are – the grand tour! And don't forget that we've got some great promotional stuff going on to help launch the site. Not only can you download our hugely popular '200 unmissable Mac tips' feature whether you're a subscriber or not, but you can also enter the competition we're running with Elgato to win a Turbo.264 and a Canon EOS 500D! Click here to enter – and remember that you can text MFRELAUNCH followed by a space, then your answer (A, B or C) to 87474!
So what do you think? We'd love to get your feedback – but be gentle! We've worked hard on the site, and while some rough edges remain, we hope you'll agree that the new MacFormat.co.uk is a huge improvement on the previous site.
